Bloomer of the Week……
Here we are again, time for me to unveil the bad play that led to this weeks Bloomer of the Week. Luckily for me, there was no such “outstanding” play this week. I will use this weeks entry to give my opinion on how important a variety of poker rooms and limits is to all poker games. A lot of people think otherwise, and take a “monopolistic” or single limit approach to a poker game/hall. The long term success of any poker game is dependent on the variety of the poker games that the players attending have access to. Poker is very similar to drugs!! You want to get the taste of it out to as many potential customers as possible…… then they will come back and start spending money (and looking for something to fix the munchies)!! Hopefully I am not encouraging the sale of drugs on this edition of the Bloomer of the Week, but I do think the philosophy is the same. Giving as many people access to the game of poker as possible, will get more people hooked and looking for their next “fix”. As we all know, poker is addictive and these players will eventually come to the other poker rooms and try new limits. If there is only one choice of poker hall, and only one limit or buy in level, the game will inevitably get stale. The players that play day in and out will get bored waiting on new “fresh meat” players and will eventually look towards new poker games and limits anyways. Just look at how online poker has affected live poker game attendance. Every poker room manager that I have talked to since the online poker boom has said that their live game attendance has spiked due to all the new players getting exposed to the drug….I mean game. They did not say that the addition of the extra online poker halls decreased their business, rather the opposite was true. The same goes for buy in limits. Some hardened players only want a game to have high limits, which might be good for a while, but unless you have a steady stream of “high rollers”, your game will eventually go stale. To remedy this, poker halls should offer a couple nights of “low buy in” games to try to bring some new blood into their game. Believe me, these “newbies” will eventually join you at the higher limit table, just give them some time to get hooked.
Just my humble opinion. I gotta run now and smoke some….. I mean play poker. Have a great New Years, and until next year….Bloomer out!!
